1st Official Post! MyGlam February 2012 Bag

So is MyGlam going to be the new Birchbox? Well I wouldn’t say that just yet – though I would say watch out Birchbox (they are trying).

So let’s get down to the dirty details of the MyGlam “Valentine’s Day” Bag, also my 1st MyGlam bag:

Well to start off, it was late – I received a post-Valentine’s day bag BUT that’s a non-issue considering the bag didn’t scream Valentine’s Day anyways.

The Goodies (sorry no photos for this one):

DEAD SEA PREMIER Cinderella Mask & Eye Cream

The Verdict: Too Small ladies! The sample was barely enough to cover my face. While the mask did make my skin feel luxuriously soft – it was no Cinderella transformation. Perhaps this would suit more mature skin, though for the price tag I had high expectations.  Eye Cream – nothing special, won’t be abandoning my usual.

Shine Control by X Out

The Verdict: I’ll have to give an update on this one later into the Texas Spring/Summer, as we’re just coming off our “winter” – my skin is not as shiny as it would normally be. Though from a simply one-time test – it doesn’t seem to be much of a moisturizer, more of a mattifier and quite thin in its consistency.  We’ll see how it well it works under make-up and the Texas sun.

BIG ISSUE HERE: Recycled packaging – rip off the label and find it’s the packaging for Meaningful Beauty Cindy Crawford -Deep Cleansing Masque. Whats up with that?

Roll On Shimmer by NYX (pronounced like ‘nicks’ for the Greek Goddess of the Night)

The Verdict: I was lucky to get the product in “Olive”, which suits my skin and eye color nicely. I am a fan of quite a few NYX products and I must say, this product is a nice addition to my cosmetics collection. The pigment glides on nicely, with golden green shimmer (without coming off too drag queen or pre-teen celebrity show), and it’s buildable.

Pineapple Enzyme Facial Mask Sachet by Freeman

The Verdict: Loved it. I have tried many Freeman brand masks and enjoy most of them. This one was no different, other than it’s consistency – a semi-transparent yellow goo that smelled amazing! It gave my skin a nice cooling feeling while on and a healthy glow when it came off. Definitely a treat for my face and senses.

NuMe Professional Styling Tools and Hair Extensions Gift Card

The Verdict: “$100!! Hell yeah!” – that was my original reaction, until I actually realized their styling tools are a minimum of $115 for one plus shipping. I had vaguely heard of the brand and knew I wouldn’t be purchasing any extensions but after researching a bit more – I’m probably going to gift this gift card away to some hair-styling-loving lady I know.

Bonus! Ghirardelli Chocolate!

The Verdict: Keep the chocolate coming!

As for MyGlam – well they’re trying and I’m excited to see the bags get better (as promised by the MyGlam girls)!

Read an email update from MyGlam here:

It’s been an amazing 3 months since we launched MyGlam. We began the company as an extension of what our founder, Michelle Phan, has been doing for years: building a community for discovering and experiencing beauty through video. While finding the right products and looks through video and sampling is important, our ultimate vision is to help women feel beautiful, both inside and out. We believe the best way to do that is to create a supportive community – one based on honest and straightforward communication. To that end, we wanted to give you an update on where we are today, and most importantly, where we’re headed.

We’ve made great progress in our mission in these first 3 months. We now have over 300,000 awesome Glammies helping each other through tips on our Facebook page and by writing reviews on the MyGlam website. We’ve shipped hundreds of thousands of products from amazing companies like Urban Decay, NYX, NuMe, and Wen. And over 2,000 helpful YouTube videos have been created by our official stylists and by you, the Glammie community.

We’ve also made mistakes as a new company. We had shipping issues in January that affected many of you. At times, our customer service team has provided inconsistent communication with uneven response times. We’ve also had unforeseen billing issues. For all of these issues and to anyone who has been affected: we are truly sorry.

We want your experience with MyGlam to be amazing and stress-free. We know we have a long way to go, and we’re working diligently behind the scenes to improve your experience. We now have an amazing team of Glam Girls to assist you with all of your customer care needs. We have made some improvements to our system, and are working on a major overhaul that will dramatically improve our billing and shipping process. And we are going to release a completely revamped version of our website in the coming months on an invite-only basis to our Glammies, so stay tuned. As we get some of these operational challenges taken care of, we can focus on the more fun stuff – building our Glammie community and creating great Glam Bags.

To answer some specific questions we’ve been asked recently:

  • If you ever need help, please contact the Glam Girls directly at http://myglam.desk.com/. Due to volume and privacy concerns, they cannot respond to individual account questions via Facebook.
  • The Glam Girls respond to each and every email they receive, as quickly as possible. Glam Girls do not work weekends or holidays, so please be patient with us.
  • A site update in March will allow you to easily update your payment information.
  • New Glam Bag subscriptions are currently closed. We will re-open them again once we can guarantee that we can serve each one of you in a quality manner.
  • We will continue to improve our shipping so that everyone, regardless of geography, will receive the Glam Bag within a few days of one another. We have Glammies in every state, and we partner with both UPS and USPS to ship tens of thousands of bags every month.
  • Glam Bags are currently not customized based on your quiz responses. But they will be in the near future! Personalization has always been the goal of MyGlam.
  • We hear you loud and clear about getting more makeup products into the Glam Bags, in addition to quality skincare and haircare products. Each month we partner with many different brands to craft a great bag of 4-5 beauty products (some sample, some full-size). It takes a few months to develop each bag, and we have some great bags on the horizon based on your input.

We appreciate your honest feedback – we take it as a sign that you care about the success and future of MyGlam. Please know that we are doing everything we can to ensure that your experience with MyGlam is amazing. Everything we’ve accomplished has been thanks to you, and we sincerely believe that with you as our partners, we will succeed in bringing Michelle’s vision, building the absolute best beauty community, to life.
