Goody QuikStyle Brush – Half Round Styler

Okay, this was probably not the best brush for me to receive. I am not a round brush using girl, in fact I hardly ever use heat on my hair, but since I was sent this one complimentary from Influenster, I wanted to give it an honest try.

Unfortunately, I’m not able to say that I loved it. In fact, it was bordering on an unpleasant experience.

First, the brush is plastic and hollow, and it just felt “cheap” for lack of a better word. The kind of “cheap” that makes you a little wary of using your blow dryer on high heat.

This was a bit of let down considering I’m a fan of many Goody products.

Then you have the strange “microfiber” bristles that act like a towel to your hair, which are not really bristles at all – as they have no inner support, so they simply get squished down as soon as you rake it through your hair.

I will say this though, the microfiber bits did help eliminate some of the moisture in my hair. Supporting that claim.

This brush also comes with its own maintenance of sorts. You need a comb to help you remove the hair stuck in the brush and around the microfiber bits. You can let the brush air dry if you want, or use your hair dryer to dry the microfiber. You will also need to shampoo the brush to maintain its cleanliness.

Final Verdict: I will be gifting this brush along to a curious friend or family member willing to try it out.

Head & Shoulders VoxBox 2012

Hi loves – a quick review for y’all today!

In late December, I received 3 Influenster VoxBoxes of complimentary products – awesome! I love testing out new products, and sharing my thought with you – especially when I ended up really liking or loving them!

One of the boxes I received was a brand specific box  for Head & Shoulders. Included was two full size bottles of their new Damage Rescue Shampoo & Conditioner collection.

abb3e99a60994a34170baa60167e33e995f733bb

So I have been using this shampoo for the past month, and as with all Head & Shoulders lines, it is primarily directed at those seeking help with dandruff and dry scalp, but with this specific line aimed at helping those needing extra help with damage.

Considering my hair is very long, and curly, it is more easily prone to damage and dryness, so I was happy to receive this line to test out.

During the cooler months, I actually use Neutrogena T-Gel to combat any seasonal dryness, so I did not mind the fact that this was an anti-dandruff/dryness/etc. brand.

Both the shampoo and conditioner are quite thick in consistency, with a pale yellow color, somewhat like vanilla pudding. They have a nice, gender-neutral and man-friendly, peachy scent.

The shampoo lathers well and neither product leaves a residue if rinsed out properly.

From my experience trying out different products, I usually take it as a step in the right direction when the conditioner is quite thick.

So after the first couple uses, I definitely noticed a difference – a good one – my hair did have that stronger feeling.*

*I should note that I leave my conditioner in my hair for a very long time. Washing/conditioning my hair is one of the first things I do, then I wrap my conditioner coated hair up, only rinsing it out at the end of my shower.

The only downfalls or doubts I have for this line are, for the effectiveness of the anti-dandruff/dryness – as it did not perform as well as my seasonal use of the T-Gel.

Also, from what I have experience, I feel this line serves well for helping with damage if you use it quite regularly. It helps with short term “damage rescue,” but it’s important to point out this is NOT a treatment with long-term effectiveness – it is shampoo and conditioner.

Full Size Value: $5.99 for each the Shampoo & Conditioner

Final Verdict: Definitely recommend this line if you are looking for an economical, gentle, but effective line for light-medium damage and low-mild dryness – to be used regularly.

Beauty Confessions – “Would You Rather” Tag

Hello loves!

So I have been watching a couple of super fun Would You Rather beauty tags on YT and since I had a lot of fun reading and writing last weeks This or That tag, I thought why not do another!!

It was definitely entertaining seeing Tanya (Burr on YT) and Zoe work around the questions… something I’m sure I’ll be guilty of as well.

The questions vary from video to video and blog to blog on the Would You Rather tag, but I think I gathered the most common ones… some of which are going to be terrible to answer for me or just really fun 😉

There are a lot of questions, so I’ll stick to short answers here…

Beauty Confession Tag - Would You Rather cover

The Questions:

Would you rather only ever wear eye makeup or skin makeup?

– Wow. If my skin was always perfect and under-eye concealer counted as eye make-up, then eye make-up!

Would you rather cut off all your hair, or never cut your hair again?

– OMG! Easy, as I’m quite attached to my very long hair and rarely cut it anyways – I would never cut it.

Would you rather always wear your clothes too big, or too small?

– Too big… too small is uncomfortable and looks much worse than too big, plus can anyone say belt it!

If you were given $1000 to spend, would you rather buy clothes or makeup?

– Clothes, as I already have quite a bit of make-up and if I bought $1000 worth (which would be amazing!!) I would also need to buy more make-up storage (and find room for it), as I’m already maxing out my current make-up storage situation.

Would you rather wear lipstick as eyeliner, or eyeliner as lipstick?

– Eyeliner as lipstick! For sure, I could easily embrace the Gothic look 😉

Would you rather wear MC Hammer pants or Biker Shorts in public?

– This is a random question, but I would have to say MC Hammer pants :/ As horrible as they are, they seem comfortable enough.

Would you rather never be able to fill in your eyebrows or only fill them in using a sharpie?

– Okay…are we talking black super thick sharpie or thin fine tip sharpie? I almost always fill in my brows a little, as some areas are a bit sparser than I would like… but I could go without filling them in if we were talking about a thick sharpie ultimatum.

Would you rather never pluck your eyebrows, or never shave your legs?

– OMG! Sorry legs, but I have to clean up my brows a little, my skin is quite light and so not cleaning up my brows can be noticed easily and good brows are very important to me.

Would you rather never be able to shop at MAC again, or only be able to use MAC?

– Ahhhh… I LOVE MAC! I use quite a bit of MAC products, though I also use a lot of other make-up products…  hmmm… can I pass on this question?? Okay – if every other make-up line perished in a beauty world catastrophe and MAC survived – I would happily use MAC and not be sad – that’s the best I can do with this question.

Would you rather only use one eye shadow color or one lip color for the rest of your life?

– Ha! I’ll take the Tanya Burr route and say one lip color because you can always mix in your endless supply of other make-up products and create custom lip colors!

Would you rather have dark nails or bright nails all year round?

– Dark nails!

Would you rather give up your favorite lip product or your favorite eye product?

– Well I would have to go with lip product, as I have quite a few, so I could live with a substitute, but eyes are more sensitive.

Would you rather go out with messy hair and nice make-up, or nice hair and no makeup?

– Messy hair and nice make-up! Messy hair works, and if it isn’t working – put in a bun 🙂

Would you rather dye your hair neon green or wear neon green lipstick – for the rest of your life?

–  I would prefer neon green hair, rocking colored hair is much easier than being stuck with green lips for the rest of your life!

Would you rather never take your make-up off or never wear any for the rest of your life?

– If it didn’t affect my skin or my eyes, I would have to say never take my make-up off. Some days my skin just need a little help looking its best.

Would you rather leave the house with an obvious foundation line or overdone blush?

– Overdone blush! Foundation lines kill me!! Eeek…

So… Bloggers, Readers, Followers, Subscribers… I TAG ALL OF YOU!!!!

Mini HAUL: Ulta

One thing I love about shopping at Ulta – their rewards program! I love receiving my certificate and being able to go pick up some free products! Plus, they always have sales!

So, in case you are unsure of how their rewards work (programs may vary based on your location), here is what they say:

The ABCs of earning gifts

Shop for what you love, and earn free gifts. You’ll get a fabulous rewards certificate from ULTA every quarter based on your spending. You’ll earn a certificate level for every $50 spent on beauty. The more you spend, the higher your certificate level will be. Once ULTA serves up your certificate, you have six weeks to redeem it in-store for beauty products from our menu of rewards items. Pretty fabulous.

The 123s of redeeming gifts

Bring in your Reward Certificate (found on the front cover of your ULTA catalog) and choose one item from the corresponding levels below. Members with Level 7 and above are able to redeem in any combination equal to their Reward Certificate Level.

So, first off, they were having a buy 2 get 1 free sale on Neutrogena products! I’m an avid lover of almost all Neutrogena products; one of my favorites being their Rainbath line.

I decided to pick up the  Gentle Exfoliating Creamy Oil Wash, in addition to my Neutrogena Naturals Purifying Facial Cleanser and my Ageless Intensives Anti-Wrinkle Deep Wrinkle Night Moisturizer.

Now onto my free stuff!

I have become infatuated with the Orofluido brand and line of products (thanks to my April Birchbox)!

A little about the line from Orofluido:

Orofluido has its inspiration in the beauty
rituals of ancient traditions.

The Berber women who live in Morocco have taught us to protect and care for our hair with the prized Argan oil. The beauty secrets of Cleopatra, Queen of Egypt and still a symbol of seduction today, included a treatment based on Cyperus oil, which left her hair smooth, shiny and velvety to the touch. Linseed oil was used by Egyptians, Hebrews and Phoenicians alike as an incredible source of shine for hair.

AN EXQUISITE MIXTURE OF NATURAL OILS

Argan oil: liquid gold for your hair
Extracted from the seeds of the Argania spinosa fruit, Argan oil is rich in vitamin E and essential fatty oils, similar in composition to our own skin. It strengthens hair and makes it extremely light and incredibly silky.
Linseed oil: instant shine
The seeds of the linen plant are the source of a precious oil which seals and smoothes the hair cuticle, providing uniformity and control. The result is hair that captures and reflects the light, giving it a spectacular shine.
Cyperus oil: pure silk to the touch
Cyperus is a plant that has been cultivated in Egypt for more than 4,000 years. It is the source of an oil with a high content of fatty acids and tocopherol, which give natural protection against free radicals. It provides softness and volume, leaving hair manageable, smooth and flexible.

The oils in these products are truely amazing, for me at least; and the scent alone is worth getting your hands on the OROFLUIDO BEAUTY ELIXIR.

The fragrance, according to the company, includes:

A foundation of Bergamot and Orange Blossom; a body of Amber, Red Pepper and Cyclamen-Muguet; finished with Amber, Vanilla and Patchouli-Sandalwood.

Now to get to the point – I was able to pick up the full size Orofluido Conditioner or Shampoo for free! I also went ahead and purchased the Orofluido Mask. Proper conditioning is very important with my hair (nauturaly curly and very long, prone to be more susceptible to dryness and damage); which is why I opted for the conditioner and grabbed the mask too.

Since I had so many points, I was at a level high enough to get a couple more things free – let’s not dwell on how I frequently get to that level or above – eeek!

In theme with my conditioning obsession, I selected the Joico K-PAK Reconstruct Deep-Penetrating Reconstructor (for damaged hair).

About the product from Joico:

K-PAK Reconstructor contains the highest amount of Quadramine Complex than any other product in the Joico family.
Hair is left shiny, strong and in a healthy, manageable state.
K-PAK Reconstructor results in an immediately noticeable difference in strength, texture and appearance.

Essentially, it is an intense protein rich conditioning and repairing treatment, somewhat like a hair mask.

I also managed to pick up a much needed pack of headbands – for free!

And that’s all she wrote y’all – for now…
